TASHKENT: Uzbekistan and the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) have engaged in discussions to explore and expand their strategic cooperation, focusing on advancing key infrastructure projects and attracting Japanese investments to Uzbekistan, Trend reported.
The talks were held between Ilham Makhkamov, Uzbekistan’s Transport Minister, and Hayashi Nobumitsu, JBIC Governor. The meeting focused on enhancing Uzbekistan’s transport infrastructure, particularly in the areas of road management and aviation.
The collaboration with JBIC aims to support and modernize these critical sectors, potentially transforming Uzbekistan’s transport network.
Furthermore, the discussions also covered the potential for new socially significant international public-private partnership (PPP) projects. These projects are targeted at modernizing Uzbekistan’s drinking water supply and sewerage infrastructure.
The collaboration between Uzbekistan and JBIC is already well-established, with a portfolio of joint projects surpassing $3.7 billion as of July 2024. This substantial portfolio underscores the depth of the partnership and the ongoing commitment to mutual economic development.
The meetings also explored broader investment opportunities for Japanese companies across various sectors of Uzbekistan’s economy. This includes potential projects in energy, agriculture, and technology, aiming to leverage Japan’s expertise and investment to boost Uzbekistan’s economic growth and development.
