Uzbekistan Aims to Double GDP by 2030, President Mirziyoyev Announces

TASHKENT: President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan has outlined a target of doubling the country’s GDP by 2030 in his inaugural speech. He emphasized the tangible opportunities and calculated strategies that Uzbekistan possesses to achieve this ambitious goal.

The speech, broadcasted live on national television, highlighted the country’s abundant natural and labor resources, intellectual and spiritual potential, and existing experience as essential factors in accomplishing this objective.

Uzbekistan’s Strategic Goals

President Mirziyoyev emphasized the importance of implementing radical changes in the economy over the next seven years. This includes embracing green economy and green energy principles as part of Uzbekistan’s strategic goals. He stated that investments in the economy would increase significantly, aiming to transition from relying primarily on agribusiness to becoming a country with a highly developed industry.

The recent presidential election, which took place on July 9, saw President Mirziyoyev reelected for a second term. This election marked the first to occur after Uzbekistan amended its constitution, extending the presidential term from five to seven years. The inauguration ceremony took place on Friday, solidifying the start of President Mirziyoyev’s new term and his commitment to driving economic growth and transformation in Uzbekistan.
