BAKU, Azerbaijan: Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev will pay a two-day state visit to Azerbaijan starting today at the invitation of Azerbaijan President, Ilham Aliyev.
The visit provides for high-level talks with the participation of the leaders of the two nations. The talks agenda includes issues as expanding practical cooperation and further deepening the Uzbek-Azerbaijani strategic partnership in priority areas. A package of bilateral agreements is likely to be adopted following the talks.
According to a statement, strengthening cooperation with Central Asian countries has been a fundamental principle of Azerbaijan’s foreign policy. The year 2022 marked a period of vibrant cooperation between Azerbaijan and Central Asian economies. The personal efforts of President Ilham Aliyev has made the Caspian Sea a unifying element between the Caucasus and Central Asia rather than a mere geographical divider.
The visit of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev is another proof of this thriving cooperation. In June 2022, when President Ilham Aliyev visited Uzbekistan, a series of agreements were signed to outline the bilateral relationship’s future trajectory.
