TASHKENT: The president of Uzbekistan has ordered a government commission to probe the cause of the huge blast at an industrial warehouse in Tashkent early September 28 that killed a teenager and injured 162 people, Western media reported on Thursday.

As per reports 600 apartments across 26 high-rise buildings were damaged due to the explosion at a warehouse in an area near Tashkent airport. School and two kindergarten buildings were also damaged in the blast.

After the explosion, a fire erupted that engulfed an area of 15,000 square meters. It took eight hours to put the fire off.

Interior Ministry investigators launched an investigation into the fire safety violations soon after the incident.

Deputy Prime Minister Ochilboy Ramatov would lead the 16-person commission probing the root causes of the explosion.

Uzbek media have reported that the warehouse where the explosion occurred was owned by a company called Inter Logistics.

The State Customs Committee said that the warehouse had been used as a storage area for imported items awaiting customs clearance.
