KARACHI: Usama Mir, the Pakistani spinner, finds himself under intense scrutiny from disappointed fans after facing setbacks in the 2023 World Cup in India and the recently concluded five-match T20I series against New Zealand.

In a recent interview with a local media channel, Usama conveyed his reaction with the criticism, highlighting the fickle nature of public sentiment.

“People talk like this, they even abuse me, so I think they forget everything, and whoever performs well, in a second, you will make them Don Bradman, you will make them Viv Richards, and for one bad performance, you will even call them parchi,” Usama Mir said.

The leg-spinner, clearly dismayed, enquired the necessity of such drastic responses, advocating for fans to sustain their support irrespective of the team’s performance.

“I don’t know which words will be used, but I think you should support because we are playing for our country, not for any other country. If there is something, so you should support us in every situation. In happiness, every person will be with us and if we are struggling, no one will stand with us in difficult times, then what is the need for this thing,” he said.

During the ODI World Cup 2023 clash against Australia, Usama Mir’s absence of a critical catch on David Warner during a crucial juncture proved costly. Warner capitalized on the opportunity, amassing 163 runs off 124 deliveries, ultimately leading to Pakistan’s downfall in a pivotal encounter.

In his inaugural T20I series against New Zealand, the 28-year-old encountered difficulties in his gameplay. Across three matches, he could only secure two wickets while conceding a total of 111 runs, resulting in an economy rate of 9.25.
