ISLAMABAD: The US Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Director, Kate Somvongsiri, and Shahjahan Mirza, Managing Director of the Private Power Infrastructure Board, presented certificates to engineering graduates from diverse universities who were competitively selected for the Empower All Energy Program (EAEP).

Under the USAID Power Sector Improvement Activity (PSIA), the EAEP aims to promote inclusion, diversity, and equity, particularly for young graduates, including women. This program offers participants the opportunity to connect with existing public and private stakeholders in the energy sector, serving as their first professional exposure to the industry and allowing them to apply classroom knowledge to practical projects.

The EAEP, part of USAID’s broader effort, combines practical training and mentoring to enhance the capacity of Pakistan’s emerging engineers, providing them with functional acumen and workplace competencies.

USAID Pakistan Mission Director Kate Somvongsiri highlighted the significance of investing in recent graduates, emphasizing their role in shaping the future of Pakistan’s energy sector. She stated, “These professionals, equipped with their new-found expertise, will play a crucial role in driving innovation, efficiency, and sustainability in the energy industry, ultimately benefiting the entire nation.”

Shahjahan Mirza recognized the longstanding partnership between the United States and Pakistan in climate and energy sectors and underscored the vital role of young leaders in the energy sector.

The PSIA collaborated with public and private energy sector stakeholders to facilitate the program. Following the capacity-building segment, participants had the opportunity to connect with various public and private energy companies. Upon completing the two-week EAEP, participants are eligible to compete for a two-month internship at one of the participating organizations.
