WASHINGTON: A 39-year-old individual from Hawaii has died of his injuries after he was attacked by a shark in the waters off Maui, according to local police.
Jason Carter, identified as a surfer by local media, was assaulted on Saturday morning, the Maui Police Department said in a statement.
Upon police arrival, safety officers were already transporting him to shore on a jet ski.
Despite life-saving efforts performed onshore, Carter ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital. Following the incident, authorities closed the beach and installed shark warning signs. The water conditions were described as “mixed” due to high surf conditions, and this tragic event marks the first fatal shark attack in Hawaiian waters for the year, as reported by Hawaii News Now.
