In the US state of Louisiana, a 16-year-old youngster has been offered university scholarships worth more than $9 million (£7.2 million).

Dennis Barnes, a senior at the International High School of New Orleans, sent applications to 200 institutions nationwide last August.

He currently has 125 acceptances and is waiting for additional offers before deciding where to enrol.

Barnes might soon establish a new record for the country thanks to the scholarship offers.

The local WWL-TV media station, which broke the story of the staggering amount the kid has amassed, quoted him as saying, “My goal is to reach $10 million.”

By doing so, Barnes would break a US record set by Normandie Cormier, a different Louisianan, three years prior.

Approximately 140 institutions gave Ms. Cormier financial help totaling $9.4 million in 2019. Ms. Cormier attended the historically black Xavier University of Louisiana and is currently earning a master’s degree at Louisiana State University.

She requested acknowledgment from Guinness World Records for her accomplishment, according to The Guardian, and the organisation was unable to determine whether she had broken a world record due to the varied higher education systems around the world, even though it was impossible to locate anyone with more offers in the US.

According to Barnes, his social media “blew up” as word of his accomplishment spread.

He has a near-perfect grade point average (GPA), is the president of the National Honours Society, is proficient in Spanish, and is currently enrolled in college courses at Southern University in New Orleans.

Not “overwhelming like most people would think,” he said, had applying to so many schools been. “I started at the beginning of the school year and over time, over a long period of time, I was applying.”

Barnes said he intends to pursue a dual degree in criminal justice and computer technology and that he will reveal his college choice next month in a statement issued by his school.

The following is his counsel for other applicants: “The road to a successful future is to plan ahead, network with the collegiate partners, and know that if you can see your vision, you can achieve your goal.”
