BEIJING: China’s military has claimed that a US combat ship entered its territorial waters illegally, Western media reported on Monday.

Media reports quoting a statement by the spokesperson for China’s Southern Theater of Operations as saying the US seriously undermined regional peace and stability.

The spokesperson alleged the US deliberately disrupted the South China Sea and seriously violated sovereignty of China.

China and its neighbors dispute on territorial waters in the South China Sea.

In recent months China had several confrontations with Philippine ships, and also condemned the patrolling of US ships in the disputed areas.

The spokesperson said the Chinese People’s Liberation Army has ordered its maritime troops to follow and monitor the movement of the US ship. The official said Chinese troops in the area are on high alert to defend national sovereignty.

It is pertinent to mention that the Philippine Coast Guard on Sunday deployed two of its ships in the South China Sea after monitoring an increase in the number of Chinese warships within the country’s exclusive economic zone.
