US: Vehicle Crashes into White House Entrance

WASHINGTON: The US officials said that a vehicle crashed into an outside gate of the White House complex in Washington shortly before 6 p.m.

U.S. Secret Service head of Communications Anthony Guglielmi stated that a driver was arrested as “the cause and manner” of the crash is being probed.

US President Joe Biden was not at the White House at the time of the accident. Biden was in South Carolina for an election campaign event and was en route to Texas.

Officials said that the traffic was suffered near Pennsylvania Avenue and 15th Street, which is the eastern side of the White House near the Treasury Building, following the crash. As per media reports, closures were lifted following the vehicle was cleared.

Authorities have not yet identified the driver of the vehicle. It was not still clear if there would be any charges against the driver.

Law enforcement officials briefed on the incident told local media that the driver was a man who is believed to have some mental health issues. He was under assessment after being taken into custody, the officers added.
