ISLAMABAD/WASHINGTON: United States (US) President Joe Biden will host Japan’s PM Fumio Kishida on January 13, the White House announced on Tuesday.

The White House said that President Joe Biden is looking forward to welcoming Prime Minister (PM) Kishida Fumio of Japan to the White House on January 13 to further deepen ties between economies, government, and the people.

US, Japan to discuss security issues

The statement added that the two leaders would talk about ways to address climate change and discuss security issues around China, North Korea, and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Joe Biden will renew his support for the presidency of Japan of the G7 and its responsibility as a non-permanent member of the United Nations (UN) Security Council.

Kishida last summer at a summit with Joe Biden in Japan warned that China is planning to take back the island of Taiwan and it could flare into a new conflict. The Japanese government approved a big revision to its defense spending and policy last month after warning that China is the “largest strategic challenge ever” to its security.

Japan pledged to increase security spending to 2 percent of GDP by 2027, reorganize its military command, and buy new missiles that can target distant enemy launch sites in its most substantial defense shuffle in decades.
