RIYADH: The commander of US Central Command, Gen. Michael “Erik” Kurilla has thanked the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) for its support in evacuating US nationals from Sudan, Arab media reported on Monday.

US thanks KSA

During a telephone call with the Royal Saudi Chief of General Staff Lieutenant-General Fayyadh bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili, the US top officials said KSA had provided access and overflights as well as all resources to evacuate hundreds of US citizens.

Kurilla added that the support permitted the movement of US nationals from the crisis-hit Sudan to safety in Jeddah. He said that the rapid coordination between the two nations was “allowed due to the firm Washington-Riyadh partnership, which dates back over seven decades. He said that they would continue to build on that partnership in future as well.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia evacuated over 200 people from the African country on Monday, and those on-board HMS Abha included US citizens.
