WASHINGTON: The United States Tuesday summoned Russia’s ambassador in Washington to protest the crash of an American drone over the Black Sea after a Russian warplane collided with it, said the State Department.

“We are engaging directly with the Russians, again at senior levels, to convey our strong objections to this unsafe, unprofessional intercept, which caused the downing of the unmanned US aircraft,” spokesman Ned Price told the reporters.

The Russian ambassador in the US was convened at the State Department in the afternoon and the American ambassador in Moscow also registered a “strong objection,” he said. Price further said that he incident marked a clear violation of international law. The crash came with tensions quite high over the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
