WASHINGTON:  A US State Department report has said that the decisions of US President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump to withdraw forces from Afghanistan had “serious consequences” for former Washington backed government and criticized the handling of the 2021 evacuation from the country, Western media reported on Friday.

The report said that the State department had also failed to expand its crisis-management task force during the evacuation. Earlier, the White House also released similar report in April but did not include the US State Department critical findings. However, the White House has not yet responded over the development while Donald Trump also did not issue any statement over the report.

The report of White House accused the disordered US withdrawal and evacuation on a lack of planning and forces reduction rounds by former President Donald Trump after a 2020 agreement with Afghan Taliban to withdraw US troops.

The review stated the US State Department planning for the evacuation “was stalled” as it was “not clear” which official “had the lead.”
