WASHINGTON: A senior official of the US State Department has resigned over Biden administration’s unjustified military aid to Israel, western media reported on Thursday.
Josh Paul, the Director of Congressional and Public Affairs of the State Department’s Bureau of Political-Military Affairs, in a letter said that the government’s efforts to give lethal weapons to Israel was destructive, unjust, and contradictory to the human values.
Palestinian health officials in Gaza have said that the destructive Israeli bombings had killed more than 3,700 people.
Paul said the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs said the US could still do an immense amount of good adding that American assistance was still needed across the world.
The diplomat said that it was his firm belief that in such conflicts, for those who are third parties should not side with combatants, but for the people caught in the middle, and generations to come.
He noted that it is US’s responsibility to help the warring parties build a better world.
Israeli bombing to lead to more suffering
Paul said the Israeli reaction to Hamas’s strike will only lead to more suffering to the people of the conflict hit region.
He was disappointed by the response by the Biden administration and many lawmakers over the Gaza situation.
He added that the US was making the past mistakes adding that Washington’s blind support for one side would bring more destruction in the area.
However, he appreciated the announcement of a $100 million humanitarian aid package for civilians in Gaza by President Joe Biden.
