SEOUL: The United States, South Korea, and Japan are reportedly preparing for their inaugural joint aerial exercise scheduled near the Korean peninsula on October 22.
This development arises against a backdrop of rising tensions with North Korea and growing influence of China in the region. The primary goal of the exercise is to enhance coordination and cooperation among these three nations.
According to information from Dong-a Ilbo, preparations are underway, including the coordination of exercise locations. The exercise is expected to involve the participation of the US B-52 strategic bombers and fighter jets from all three countries. General Kim Seung-kyum, who chairs South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, publicly acknowledged the plans for these joint aerial drills during a parliamentary hearing.
Moreover, the establishment of a three-way communications hotline signals a deepening trilateral security collaboration between South Korea, Japan, and the United States.
