NEW YORK: The United States has said it wants the United Nations Security Council to adopt a resolution supported by the proposal of President Joe Biden to end Israel’s war in Gaza.
It circulated a one-page draft text to the 15-member UNSC. A resolution requires at least nine votes in favour and no vetoes by the US, France, Britain, China or Russia.
The draft stressed the importance of all stakeholders adhering to the terms of the deal once agreed to bring about a permanent end to hostilities.
The US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield in a statement said numerous leaders and governments have endorsed the plan proposed by President Biden and called on the Security Council to join them for implementation of this deal without further conditions and delay.

Israel’s war on Gaza, now spanning 242 days, has killed over 36,479 Palestinians, mostly women and children leaving another 82,777 injured.
According to Gaza health officials, 10,000 residents of the war-hit Palestinian enclave feared being buried under the debris of bombed homes.
Israeli continues to strike Gaza
Earlier, an Israeli missile strike on a residence in the Bureij camp killed four Palestinians while multiple people were injured.
According to media reports Israeli jets targeted the Al Maghari and Al Ahlam residential towers. They also fired shells at two more towers in the camp.
The White House on Monday said President Biden held talks with the emir of mediator Qatar seeking his support to press Hamas to accept the US-proposed peace deal.
Before Biden had made his announcement, Algeria last week circulated a draft resolution stressing an immediate ceasefire and end to the Israeli offensive on the southern Gaza city of Rafah.
After passing two resolutions on the need for humanitarian aid to the people in Gaza, the UN Security Council in March passed a resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire an appeal that had been blocked by the United States several times.
