NEW YORK: US and Russia envoys clashed at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on the Gaza Strip, with Russian Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia blaming his “Western colleagues” of permitting Israel to use hunger as a weapon of war in the Strip.
Vassily Nebenzia said at the UN Security Council that Washington had vetoed several UN attempts and efforts at bringing about a truce that would have stopped “mass starvation” in the Gaza Strip.
He said that the US bears complete responsibility for the unprecedented number of civilian victims of the current escalation. He further said that their number is now about 30,000 and that is the cost of the Washington’s veto in the UNSC on Gaza.

On the other hand, US deputy envoy Robert Wood replied by saying that people of Ukraine live under “savage, brutal bombings and killings that they have to deal with every single day.”
He said that he would just remind everyone in this hall that Russia is a country that does not contribute to resolving humanitarian issues but creates them.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian death toll in the Gaza Strip has climbed to more than 30,000 since October 7, Gaza Health Ministry said. The statement also highlights the severity of the humanitarian crisis unfolding in the region, with many civilians trapped under debris and in dire need of rescue. The Israeli military committed eleven massacres across the territory, which also underscores the scale of the violence and devastation inflicted on Palestinians.
Similarly, efforts to finalize a new ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in war-torn Gaza are also intensifying. Earlier, US President Joe Biden said he hoped a truce in the Gaza Strip could start by the beginning of upcoming week.
Human Rights Watch said that Israel has failed to comply with the United Nations’ top court’s order to provide urgently needed aid to desperate people in Gaza.
