LOS ANGELES: The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has revealed that there have been at least 26 million illnesses, around 290,000 hospitalizations, and some 18,000 deaths from flu so far this season across the United States, according to the latest estimates published on Friday.

According to the CDC, a total of 117 pediatric flu deaths have been reported in the US this season.

The number and weekly rate of flu hospital admissions continued to decline in the country. CDC data showed that about 1,500 people were hospitalized with flu in the latest week ending February 25.

Annual flu vaccines to control deaths

The CDC recommends that everyone ages six months and older get an annual flu vaccine as long as flu activity continues.

According to the CDC, prescription flu antiviral drugs can also be used to treat flu illness, which needs to be started as early as possible.
