WASHINGTON: US President Joe Biden on Friday will oversee the return to the US of the bodies of 3 troops, killed in a drone attack at a base near Syria that Washington has blamed on militants.
AFP reported that these were the first US military personnel killed by fire in the region after October 7.
The bodies of Kennedy Ladon Sanders, William Jerome Rivers, and Breonna Alexsondria Moffett will arrive at an air force base in Dover.
US President to Receive Bodies of US Troops Killed in Drone Attack
Earlier, Biden received bodies at the base after the August 26, 2021 bombing at the Kabul airport, during the US withdrawal from Afghanistan.
The White House said a militia in Iraq was behind the drone attack on the base near Syrian border. President Biden has vowed a reply, the nature and timing of which have not been declared in public.
As per media reports, US forces in the region have been attacked over 165 times since mid-October. US forces have also been striking targets in reply, while the US has said it wants to avert conflict in the region.
Earlier, President Biden said that three US troops were killed and many injured during an unmanned aerial drone attack on US troops stationed near the Syrian border.
