WASHINGTON: US President Joe Biden called on Republicans in his State of the Union address Tuesday night to work with him to “finish the job” of upgrading the country’s economy.

The backdrop of the annual address was evidently different from the last two years, with a GOP speaker sitting straight-faced behind Joe Biden and Republican lawmakers in the audience making to analyze both Biden’s administration and policies.

Joe Biden sought to assure the US that his stewardship of the country has produced results both at abroad and home, as Biden also set out to prove his fitness for upcoming presidential polls.

He said that there was no reason they could not work together in this new Congress.

Biden further added that they are building an economy, jobs are coming back, pride is coming back due to the choices they made in the previous two years.

The annual address comes days after Joe Biden ordered his military to shoot down a suspected Chinese balloon. Biden said that they made clear last week, if Beijing threatens their sovereignty, they will act to protect their country. Last year’s speech occurred just days after Russia attacked Ukraine.

Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders is to deliver the GOP response to President Biden’s speech.
