US President, House Speaker to Discuss Debt Limit on Wednesday: White House

WASHINGTON: US House of Representatives speaker Kevin McCarthy has said that he is looking forward to hold discussion with US President Joe Biden a “reasonable and responsible way” that they can lift the debt ceiling when the two-hold meeting on Wednesday for their first sit-down at Biden’s office since Kevin McCarthy was elected as speaker of the House.

McCarthy said that he wants to resolve matter of spending cuts along with raising the debt limit. However, the White House has ruled out to connecting the two issues together as Biden’s administration tries to avoid a potentially shocking financial default.

Kevin McCarthy said that Biden didn’t want to have any discussion on cuts but he thought it is very significant that the whole government is designed to find compromise. He added that he wanted to sit together, work out an agreement that they can move forward to put them on a path to balance.

The White House also confirmed that the meeting will be held between President Biden and McCarthy.
