WASHINGTON: Some top US officials said on Wednesday that Washington is doing homework to announce a major fresh arms package for Kyiv on Friday as top military heads from across the globe assemble in Germany to hold discussions on how to assist Ukraine in its war against Russia.
While the next package will include additional ammunition, artillery, and armor but the US is not expected to ink off on American M1 Abrams tanks, said the officials on condition of anonymity.
According to POLITICO, US President Joe Biden currently has no intentions to send the Abrams battle tank.
US will not provide long-range Tactical Missile System
The news package is likely to include ground-launched small-diameter bombs, Strykers an armored fighting vehicle. POLITICO reported that the new package will not include the long-range Tactical Missile System that can reach Russia’s capital Moscow.
The US President has hesitated at providing long-range munitions, despite Ukraine’s pleas, for fear of provoking President Vladimir Putin.

US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told the media on Wednesday that they believe the provision of modern tanks will significantly assist and enhance Kyiv’s ability to fight.
However, the spokesperson declined to comment on any upcoming package from the United States.
