WASHINGTON: The 3rd Republican nominee for US House of Representatives speaker dropped out Tuesday following failing to find enough backing to win the gavel, American media reported, plunging the paralyzed House deeper into disaster. Minnesota lawmaker Tom Emmer had narrowly won an internal Republican vote to replace removed speaker Kevin McCarthy — but quit hours later amidst a criticism from the right wing of the party led by former Donald Trump.

According to CNN, pressure is increasing on House Republicans to choose a new speaker 3 weeks following ex-Speaker Kevin McCarthy was removed.

Earlier on October, 4 the US House of Representatives voted to oust Kevin McCarthy as speaker. The result came following a nail-biting, but lengthy, roll call that needed every lawmaker to put their choice on the record. As per media reports some 216 members- including 8 Republicans – voted to remove Kevin McCarthy from the Speaker’s chair. This was a major win for the rebellious faction of hardliner Republicans led by Matt Gaetz. It was the first removal of a speaker in the US House of Representatives 234-year history and was also backed by several right-wing Republicans.
