WASHINGTON: Former US ambassador to UN Nikki Haley is likely to announce in the next two weeks that she will seek Republican presidential nomination in the next presidential polls.

She tweeted that she has a big announcement to share with you on February 15th.

Casting herself as a fresher alternative to the US former president Donald Trump, she has been hinting at a White House bid for weeks. She recently posted a video via social media in which she declared: “It’s time for a new generation to lead.”

But her announcement would confirm that Donald Trump will not run uncontested. Other Republicans leaders seen as potential rivals to former President Trump include Trump’s vice president Mike Pence, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, former secretary of state Mike Pompeo, and former Maryland governor Larry Hogan.

Former President Donald Trump said that he had talked to his former ambassador on the phone and had encouraged her to run.
