US Pledges Full Support to Pakistan’s Economic Reforms

ISLAMABAD: The United States (US)Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asia Affairs, Elizabeth Horst, met with the Caretaker Federal Minister for Finance, Revenue, and Economic Affairs, Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, at the Finance Division on Monday.

Dr. Shamshad Akhtar warmly welcomed Elizabeth Horst and her delegation, emphasizing the longstanding, diverse, and multi-dimensional relationship between Pakistan and the United States.

During the meeting, the Finance Minister briefed the US delegation on Pakistan’s economic reform agenda, designed to achieve economic and fiscal stability. She provided insights into key reforms, including those concerning State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), privatization, and changes within the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

The Finance Minister also highlighted the ongoing restructuring of FBR to enhance efficiency and digitalize the economy, pointing out the recent success in concluding the first review with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Elizabeth Horst expressed gratitude for the briefing and conveyed full support to Pakistan from the US government and its people. She acknowledged the positive relations between the two countries and extended her support to further enhance bilateral economic ties.

In response, the Finance Minister thanked Ms. Elizabeth Horst and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening trade and investment relations with the United States.
