WASHINGTON: US officials will meet Afghan Taliban representatives during a trip to Qatar this week, the US State Department said on Wednesday, Reuters news agency reported.

According to Reuters, the two sides will discuss narcotics, security, and women’s rights. In a statement, the State Department said US Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas West and Special Envoy for Afghan Women and Human Rights Rina Amiri will visit Astana and Doha from July 26 to July 31 and meet the Afghan Taliban delegation. The Afghan Taliban took back power in August 2021 in Afghanistan.
