RAWALPINDI: The US State Department’s Senior Bureau Official for South and Central Asian Affairs, Eric Meyer has expressed interest in Pakistan’s steadily improving investment landscape.

According to a press release issued by Pakistan military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), on Wednesday, a high-level delegation from the United States, led by Mr. Eric Meyer, called on Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.

“The meeting came in the backdrop of Pakistan’s Mineral Investment Forum 2025. Appreciating the first-of-its-kind forum, the delegation expressed confidence in Pakistan’s policy to develop vast untapped mineral wealth through mutually beneficial partnerships,” ISPR stated.

Commenting on the US Administration’s priorities where collaboration in mineral development with Pakistan is a core area of mutual interest, Mr. Meyer also expressed interest in Pakistan’s steadily improving investment landscape, ISPR added.

ISPR said the meeting also provided an opportunity for both sides to share perspectives on global developments and Pakistan’s regional security imperatives.

“Both sides expressed confidence in the positive trajectory of bilateral relations and agreed on the need to explore B2B (business-to-business) avenues in addition to expanding existing G2G (government-to-government) and P2P (people-to-people) cooperation for comprehensively strengthening the relationship,” the press release concluded.

Earlier, Mr. Eric Meyer leading a US delegation met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The prime minister during the meeting expressed Pakistan’s desire to work with US President Donald Trump and his administration to strengthen bilateral relations with the United States.

Meyer congratulated Pakistan on organising the two-day Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum and acknowledged the interest of American firms in exploring investment opportunities in Pakistan’s mining industry.

Separately, the American official met with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and held detailed discussions on bilateral cooperation in counterterrorism, anti-smuggling and narcotics control.

Both sides agreed to strengthen collaboration, with Naqvi emphasising that the upcoming Pakistan-US Counterterrorism Dialogue in June, set to take place in Islamabad, would be a “significant step in bolstering joint efforts.”

The US official condemned last month’s deadly terrorist attack on a passenger train in Balochistan province by terrorists and offered condolences for the loss of lives.
