DAMASCUS: Following the deadly US airstrikes, Damascus has vehemently declared that the “occupation of parts of Syrian territory by US forces cannot continue.” The Syrian military, in a statement released on Saturday, detailed the consequences of the overnight strikes, highlighting the casualties among civilians and soldiers, as well as huge damage to public and private property.

“The occupation of parts of Syrian territory by US forces cannot continue,” the statement asserted, underscoring the military’s unwavering commitment to liberate all Syrian territory from both terrorism and occupation.

US Forces in Syrian Territory

The United States had attributed the drone attack in Jordan to a militant group, prompting the retaliation through airstrikes. With approximately 900 troops stationed in Syria and 2,500 in neighboring Iraq as part of an international coalition, the US military presence in the region has been a source of contention.

The Syrian foreign ministry strongly condemned the recent strikes, stating that they served to “inflame the conflict in the Middle East in an extremely dangerous way.” The ministry emphasized that the attacks added to the United States’ “record of violations of Syrian sovereignty” and territorial integrity.

In a clear rejection of the justifications put forth by the US administration, the Syrian ministry asserted, “Syria condemns this blatant American violation and categorically rejects all the pretexts and lies used by the US administration to justify this attack.”
