US Military Jet Crashes in South Korea

SEOUL: The United States military said that its F-16 fighter jet crashed during training on Saturday near a major US military base in South Korea.

According to CNN, the American Air Force in South Korea said the fighter jet assigned to the 8th Fighter Wing “crashed in an agricultural place near Osan Air Base.”

 

According to the military that the jet pilot safely ejected and was transported to the closest medical facility, the military said. No citizens were hurt in the incident.

The local fire department has been dispatched to extinguish the fire, South Korea’s Governor of Gyeonggi Province, Kim Dong-yeon, wrote on Twitter.

 

The military said that the jet pilot was participating in the routine training flight, adding that the investigation into the incident is underway.

 

Osan Air Base is the United States Air Force’s nearest base to North Korea, about 40 miles from its border.
