  • Trump launched a fast-track “FIFA Pass” to prioritize visa appointments for 2026 World Cup ticket holders.

  • The initiative comes amid political tensions as World Cup preparations intersect with Trump’s border crackdown.

WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump has announced a special fast-track visa program for fans holding tickets to the 2026 World Cup, while cautioning that the new system does not guarantee entry into the United States.

Unveiling the initiative at the Oval Office alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino, Trump said the “FIFA Pass” would prioritize visa appointments for ticket holders in an effort to ensure a smooth experience for millions expected to travel for next year’s tournament.

“For those who intend to join us for the World Cup, I strongly encourage you to apply right away,” Trump said.

Infantino hailed the scheme as a “very important announcement,” noting that a record five to ten million visitors could arrive in the US for the event.

Under the plan, applicants will receive expedited interview appointments, but US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stressed that holding a match ticket does not guarantee entry.

“Your ticket is not a visa,” Rubio warned. “You’ll still go through the same vetting. Don’t wait till the last minute.”

The World Cup has become a signature event of Trump’s second term, tied closely to celebrations marking 250 years of US independence.

Yet political tensions remain, especially as Trump continues to link host-city logistics to his broader crackdown on crime and migration.

The tournament draw will take place in Washington on December 5, the same day FIFA is set to award a new peace prize, with speculation swirling that Trump could be its first recipient.
