US General Says Daesh Continues to Lose Influence in Iraq
Major General Matthew W. McFarlane, head of the Combined Joint Task Force, claimed there had been a “65 percent decrease” in terrorist activity by Daesh militant group in the past year. The militant group is no longer militarily operational, the General said, but individual offcuts continue to be accountable for several incidents of violence.
He said that “Daesh militant group no longer controls any area or territory and have suffered losses of their leaders and men at large,”.
The General maintained that in the last few years, the Iraqi forces have made wonderful strides in defeating Daesh militant group and continue in their efforts to stop the recurrence of Daesh.

He admitted that many regional issues remain including the repatriation of displaced people and Daesh captives currently in northeastern Syria and their rehabilitation into their homes.
General McFarlane said that the recent Joint Security Cooperation Dialogue between the United States and the Iraqi leaders reaffirms the bilateral security partnership and cooperation between the two sides and their shared interests in regional stability.
