ISLAMABAD: The US, in partnership with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), provided $8 million of assistance Aid to Pakistani farmers who became victims of the recent devastating floods, the United State Ambassador to Pakistan Donald Blome announced on Thursday.
The aid is part of the $97 million flood-related assistance to Pakistan by the United State in the current year and focuses on humanitarian needs, disaster preparedness, food security, and capacity-building efforts.
The Ambassador made the announcement at an event alongside farmers from flood-affected areas. In his remarks, he discussed the history of the United States-Pakistan economic cooperation and highlighted opportunities for future partnership.
US Aid to benefit around 90,000 households
In the recent flood assistance, the Uinted State delivered wheat seeds and fertilizer to approximately 90,000 households in flood-hit areas of Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces. The effort was focused on women-headed households as women and girls were disproportionately vulnerable to natural disasters and gender-based violence.
