WASHINGTON: The U.S. State Department has expressed solidarity with NATO ally Turkey following a terrorist attack that killed a civilian and wounded two police officers, Turkish media reported on Monday.
Speaking at a briefing Spokesman Matthew Miller said that the US has already declared the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) has been as a foreign terrorist organization.
US stands firmly with Turkey
He said that the US stands firmly with Turkey and the Turkish people in their fight against the PKK and we will continue to do so.
Miller added that the US strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Ankara and wished speedy recovery to those injured.
On Turkey’s anti-terror airstrikes in northern Iraq, Miller said the US understands the legitimate security threat that PKK poses to Turkey and added that Turkey should pursue joint counterterrorism cooperation with Iraq.

Earlier the Turkish Interior Ministry said it has confirmed links of one of the dead attackers to the PKK terror group.
On Sunday a suicide bomber detonated an explosive device at the main gate of the country’s interior ministry injuring two policemen.
