WASHINGTON: US President Joe Biden has ordered the deployment of US ships and warplanes closer to Israel, reinforcing the nation’s support after the surprise attacks by the Palestinian Resistance group, Hamas.
The Pentagon confirmed the dispatch of the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford and its accompanying warships to the eastern Mediterranean, along with additional fighter aircraft squadrons in the region.
As a major arms supplier to Israel, the United States swiftly reaffirmed its “rock-solid” support for Israel, warning other parties to stay out of the conflict. President Biden spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, pledging further assistance for the Israeli Defense Forces, with more aid expected in the coming days.
The US president conveyed his unwavering support to Israel, condemning the attack by Hamas group and ensuring that the government and people of Israel receive full backing from the United States.
The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has seen its most intense escalation in decades, resulting in over 370 deaths in Israeli airstrikes in Gaza. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has prepared his nation for a prolonged conflict, with tens of thousands of Israeli forces deployed to confront Hamas forces and potentially prepare for a ground offensive in Gaza.
US Announces Deployment of Additional Forces
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announced the deployment of additional forces, including the USS Gerald R. Ford carrier, a guided missile cruiser, and four guided missile destroyers. The US government will also swiftly provide the Israel Defense Forces with additional equipment and resources, including munitions, reinforcing the “ironclad support for the Israel Defense Forces and the Israeli people,” emphasized Austin.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated that Biden had directed his administration to provide Israel with everything it needs to handle the attacks from Hamas.
