WASHINGTON/ISLAMABAD: A high-level US delegation led by Eric Meyer, a senior official from the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs at the US State Department, will visit Islamabad from April 8 to 10 to attend the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum 2025 (PMIF25), the US State Department said in a statement.
The forum, being organised by the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) in collaboration with the Government of Pakistan and key strategic partners, will take place at the Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad on April 8-9.
PMIF25 is aimed at showcasing Pakistan’s mineral potential and offering a platform for international stakeholders to explore investment opportunities in the country’s emerging minerals sector.
According to the State Department, Meyer will hold meetings with senior Pakistani officials to “expand opportunities for American businesses in Pakistan and promote the deepening of economic ties between our two countries.”
He will also discuss continued cooperation between Pakistan and the United States on counterterrorism initiatives.
The visit comes amid rising interest in Pakistan’s untapped mineral wealth, which Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his cabinet have repeatedly described as key to the country’s economic revival.
Pakistan’s government has identified the development of the minerals sector as a cornerstone of its economic policy.
Meyer’s visit also follows the imposition of a 29 per cent tariff on Pakistani goods by US President Donald Trump, as part of a broader move to increase duties on imports from several countries, escalating global trade war.
US congressional delegation to visit Pakistan
Meanwhile, a bipartisan US congressional delegation will also visit Pakistan from April 10 to 16 to strengthen bilateral relations and explore areas of cooperation, officials said.
The four-member delegation will be led by Democratic Congressman Tom Suozzi and includes Republican Congressman Lt. General (Retd) Jack Bergman of Michigan, who also serves as the Co-Chair of the Pakistan Congressional Caucus.
The delegation will meet Pakistan’s top political and military leadership, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
During their weeklong stay, the delegation will also meet leaders of various political parties and engage in dialogue on mutual interests and cooperation.
