WASHINGTON: US officials said that the Pentagon is probing what appear to be screenshots of classified NATO and US military information regarding Kyiv circulating via social media.

CNN has reviewed several of the images circulating on social media but is unable to confirm if they are authentic or not. US authorities say the documents are real, part of a daily intelligence deck developed by the US Defence Department regarding the war, but it appears these documents have been edited in several places.

US Defence department to probe leak documents

Pentagon deputy press secretary Sabrina Singh said in a statement that the US Defence Department is “aware of the social media posts, and the Department is also reviewing the matter.”

The adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine Mykhailo Podolyak said on his social media account that he believes the elements in Moscow are behind the leak.

The advisor added that the documents are inauthentic, have “nothing to do with Kyiv’s actual plans” and are based on “a large amount of untrue information.”

One picture that has been circulating on Russian social media channels and was reviewed by CNN is an image of a hard copy of a text titled “United States, Allied and Partner UAF Combat Power Build.”

The US media outlet the New York Times disclosed the Pentagon probe, reported that some of the pictures circulating online describe intelligence that might be useful to Moscow, such as how quickly the people of Ukraine are expending munitions used in the United States-provided rocket-systems.
