US-China Ties: Biden Plans Meeting with President Xi

WASHINGTON: The White House is making efforts and plans for a meeting between President Joe Biden and President Xi Jinping in San Francisco in November as Washington and Beijing seek to stabilize their ties, Western media reported on Thursday.

US-China Ties

The Washington Post cited senior unnamed US officials, as saying that there is possibility of a meeting between the two Presidents in next month, adding they are beginning the process for the meeting.

As per the media reports, the meeting between the two sides would also follow high-level interactions between the two nations in recent months that have seen trips from US officials to Beijing like Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo in recently.

In recent past, Blinken also met Chinese Vice President Han Zheng in New York while US national security adviser Jake Sullivan held meeting with Chinese Minister for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi in Malta.

However, the Chinese embassy in the US did not immediately react over the reports of the Washington Post. Similarly, the White House has not yet issued any remarks over the matter. President Biden and President Xi’s last meeting was held on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Indonesia in November 2022.

San Francisco is going to host an Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meeting in November that Chinese Leader Xi may attend. The Chinese President had recently skipped the G20 summit in India that President Biden attended.
