The recommendation is non-binding but may press prosecutors to act against Trump. Today’s meeting is likely the final public meeting of a committee that spent 1 year and 8 months investigating the unprecedented attempt to stop the peaceful transfer of power by Trump‘s backers, inspired by his claims that his 2020 polls loss to President Joe Biden was the outcome of widespread scam.
“If we are to survive as a country and a nation of democracy and law, it can never happen next time,” Chairperson of the panel Bennie Thompson said. Thompson criticized Trump for undermining faith in a democratic setup and added that he (Trump) broke the faith in democracy.
