US Assures Support to Pakistan for Energy Sector Reforms

ISLAMABAD: A delegation of the US Department of Treasury, led by Assistant Secretary Brent Neiman, met with Pakistan’s Minister for Power Division Sardar Awais Leghari on Thursday to explore potential collaborations in the energy sector.

During the meeting, Sardar Awais Leghari outlined a reform plan designed to address deficiencies in Pakistan’s power sector, with the goal of improving the country’s energy mix and resolving other sectoral issues.

The minister informed the delegation that the reforms aim to enhance private sector participation in the distribution and transmission of electricity, ultimately improving the quality of service for the Pakistani populace.

Regarding debt management, the minister highlighted a program initiated by Pakistan to replace conventional fans with energy-saving ones, which will conserve energy and help manage seasonal variations in energy demand.

Sardar Awais Leghari emphasized the need for US technical support to address the seasonal generation and demand gap, and he underscored the importance of American assistance in securing international financing for Pakistan’s power sector at more favorable rates.

Assistant Secretary Brent Neiman commended Pakistan’s power sector reform initiatives and assured full cooperation to help resolve the country’s power sector challenges.
