WASHINGTON: The United States (US) has called on the Taliban administration in Afghanistan to ensure that terrorist attacks against Pakistan are not launched from Afghan soil.
Asked to comment on Pakistan’s intelligence-based anti-terrorist operations inside the border regions of neighbouring Afghanistan, State Department spokesman Vedant Patel said that the United States “deeply” regrets the loss of life and “injustices” sustained during an attack in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province. Seven Pakistani troops were martyred in the terrorist attack at a security post in North Waziristan’s Mir Ali area on Saturday.
Patel told his daily news briefing on Monday that the US urges the Taliban to ensure that terrorist attacks are not carried out from Afghan soil.
Taliban Member Join TTP
In February, the UN Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team said in a report that al-Qaida operatives were increasingly helping TTP militants to launch cross-border attacks. Some ruling Taliban members also joined TTP, the report said.
The report added that besides supplying equipment and weapons, the Taliban and Al-Qaida core helped TTP forces in cross-border attacks.
