WASHINGTON: The United States (US) has announced sanctions against Emmerson Mnangagwa Jr, the son of Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson ahead of a summit of African countries in Washington.
According to a press release issued by the US Treasury Department, the sanctions will target human rights abusers and those who undermine democratic processes or facilitate corruption in the African country.
Sanctions Against Son of Zimbabwe’s President

It may be recalled that the sanctions were announced a day before US President Joe Biden is going to host a summit of African leaders in Washington to discuss food insecurity and climate change. Reports said that as many as 50 African leaders are expected to attend the summit.
The president of the African country had his own US assets blocked in 2003 following the administration of then-President George Bush sanctioned him for “undermining democratic processes in Zimbabwe”.
