GILGIT: US Ambassador to Pakistan, Donald Bloom, met with Deputy Speaker of the Gilgit Baltistan (GB) Assembly, Sadia Danish, and reaffirmed support for the region’s development and welfare initiatives.
They discussed matters of mutual interest and placed a significant emphasis on the development and well-being of women in the region. Ambassador Bloom expressed a keen interest in various sectors within GB, acknowledging the region’s potential.
Deputy Speaker Sadia Danish underscored the untapped opportunities within GB’s tourism sector and sought technical support and cooperation for its growth. She also shed light on environmental issues in the region, such as annual floods and rains due to climate change, leading to financial losses for the local population. Stressing the urgency of environmental protection, she called for serious measures.

Moreover, Deputy Speaker Danish highlighted the challenges faced by women and proposed solutions. She called for prioritizing students from Gilgit-Baltistan for scholarships and admissions to US educational institutions.
The ambassador assured Deputy Speaker Danish of special support in the areas of environmental protection, tourism promotion, women’s development, and education for the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.
