DAMASCUS: In a series of air strikes today in eastern Syria, at least 19 fighters were killed, and 30 others were wounded, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The strikes, which targeted military positions in Albu Kamal and its surroundings in Deir Ezzor province near the Iraq border, were deemed “likely American” by the Observatory.

The casualties included three Syrian fighters, and the strikes also hit a weapons shipment from Iraq and an ammunition warehouse.

Hezbollah, akin to Hamas, announced the death of four of its fighters “on the road to Jerusalem,” though it remains unclear whether they were killed in the recent strikes in the Albu Kamal area.

This increase in violence coincides with increased attacks against US and coalition forces in Syria and Iraq, raising concerns about escalating tensions in the region.

The United States has responded with airstrikes, including those in Iraq earlier this week after a drone attack wounded three US military personnel in the Kurdistan region.
