DENVER, COLORADO: American actor Kevin Costner and his wife Christine Baumgartner are parting ways as Baumgarten, 49, has filed for divorce, PEOPLE has confirmed.
PEOPLE has quoted Costner’s representative saying, “It is with deep regret that Costner must now take part in a dissolution of marriage action due to events beyond his control.”
He added that the privacy of Christine and their children must be respected as they are passing through a difficult time. TMZ initially reported the news.
The couple got married in September 2004 and have three kids, daughter Grace, 12, and sons Cayden, 15, and Hayes, 14. Costner, 68, also has four older children from his previous relationships, sons Joe and Liam and daughters Annie and Lily.
Before giving Costner an ultimatum, Baumgartner and Costner dated for six years. Before he decided “I’m not going to lose her because I’m afraid,” Costner said, “There finally came a moment where maybe, this doesn’t go forward.”
After a 16-year marriage to Cindy Silva that ended in divorce in 1994, this was Costner’s second marriage.
