MAKKAH: Prompt intervention by Saudi Arabia’s urgent care sector—a core component of its healthcare model—successfully saved the life of a Turkish Hajj pilgrim suffering from an advanced tumor in her descending colon.

A medical team at Al-Noor Specialist Hospital, a member of the Makkah Health Cluster, performed an urgent surgical procedure ending the patient’s severe intestinal obstruction, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Saturday.

The Makkah Health Cluster reported that a patient arrived at the hospital’s emergency department in critical condition. Medical assessments, including a CT scan, revealed an advanced tumor in the descending colon. The tumor was attached to the spleen and several nearby organs, causing a complete intestinal blockage.

The surgical team quickly opted for emergency surgery to save the patient’s life. The complex operation lasted about an hour and a half. Following the procedure, the patient made a full recovery and was discharged the next day in stable condition.
