NEW YORK: The United Nations (UN) said on Thursday that the world body would not stop aid to Afghanistan despite the Taliban bar on women working in NGOs.
The United Nations Resident Coordinator in Afghanistan, Ramiz Alakbarov, told the media that the UN and humanitarian fellows are very committed to providing life-saving services to the people of Afghanistan.
Alakbarov added that Afghanistan’s humanitarian needs are categorically enormous. He said they do not believe that it is possible to deliver comprehensive humanitarian action without the inclusion of women. However, he said it is significant that they continue to stay and deliver. He said that aid is never conditional for needy and dying people.
He added that the UN Emergency Relief Coordinator and other officials will visit Afghanistan in the upcoming weeks to discuss the situation with the Taliban rulers, which recently ban women from university.
