RAWALPINDI: Islamabad United clinched a crucial victory against Karachi Kings at Pindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi, powered by a resilient display with both bat and ball. This win not only secured their position on the points table, nestled at second place with nine points, but also marked a historic achievement as they recorded their eighth consecutive triumph over the Kings in HBL PSL history. Led by Shadab Khan, United showcased their dominance, while Karachi Kings found themselves at the fifth spot with six points.

In pursuit of a modest target of 151, Islamabad’s opening pair initiated a solid start, posting a 28-run partnership before Colin Munro (9) and Alex Hales (18) fell prey to Kings’ bowlers. Despite losing wickets, United maintained momentum, reaching 47 runs in the powerplay. Salman Ali Agha and Shadab Khan steadied the innings, keeping the scoreboard ticking. However, wickets continued to tumble, with Blessing Muzarabani and Zahid Mahmood making breakthroughs.

With skipper Shadab’s dismissal for 34, the pressure mounted, but Faheem Ashraf’s impactful performance, including a towering six, and a resilient partnership between Haider Ali and Faheem sealed the win for Islamabad. Haider’s unbeaten 26 and Faheem’s unbeaten 12 propelled United to victory with five wickets in hand and eight balls to spare. Hamza starred for Kings with a three-wicket haul, supported by Muzarabani and Zahid.

Earlier, Islamabad’s decision to field first paid off as they restricted Karachi Kings to 150-7. Faheem’s two crucial wickets and economical bowling, alongside Tymal Mills’ three wickets, stifled Kings’ batting efforts. Despite Kieron Pollard’s explosive innings of 39 and James Vince’s contribution of 29, Karachi struggled to build partnerships.

Faheem Ashraf’s all-round performance earned him the player of the match award as Islamabad United emerged victorious. In today’s fixture, Peshawar Zalmi will face Quetta Gladiators at Pindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi, at 7pm.
