NEW YORK: The United Nations body for the welfare of children, UNICEF, has raised the alarm at the number of children killed and injured during the recent escalation in violence between the Israelis and Palestinians.

In a statement, UNICEF said that one Israeli child and seven Palestinian children had been killed since the beginning of 2023.

“Children on both sides continue to pay the highest price of recent violence,” the organization said. UNICEF feared that more children would suffer.

“UNICEF appeals to all parties concerned to de-escalate, exercise the utmost restraint, and refrain from violence, particularly against children, in accordance with international law.

UNICEF states violence is never a solution

“Violence is never a solution to the conflict, and all forms of violence against children are unacceptable. Violence against children must end.”

Under international human rights law, all children are entitled to special protection. The organization stressed that all of their rights, including the right to protection and life, must be upheld.
