UNGA President Lauds Pakistan’s Commitment at Pak Day Reception in New York

NEW YORK: UN General Assembly President Dennis Francis praised Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism during a Pakistan Day reception in New York, highlighting the country’s achievements and contributions to global peace and security.

He commended Pakistan’s role as a member of the UN, its presence in various UN bodies, and its significant contributions to peacekeeping missions.

The reception, attended by diplomats, UN officials, and members of civil society, emphasized Pakistan’s dedication to the principles of the UN Charter.

Ambassador Munir Akram reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism, highlighting its active role in the UN since 1947 and its support for initiatives promoting peace, development, and human rights.

The General Assembly President acknowledged Pakistan’s historic milestones and diplomatic achievements, including its efforts against Islamophobia and its leadership in addressing climate change.

Praising Ambassador Akram, President Francis recalled Pakistan’s successful presidency of ECOSOC in 2021 and its resilience in the face of climate disasters. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between Pakistan and the UN, particularly in areas of sustainability and disaster response.

Ambassador Akram reaffirmed Pakistan’s adherence to the principles of the UN Charter and its efforts to champion the causes of the Global South. He highlighted Pakistan’s contributions to key UN bodies and announced its candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for 2025-2026, seeking international support for its bid.
